Tips Indoor Fabric Decorations That Cozy Up Your Space

Fabric comes in many varieties—from solid colors to bold patterns, from cotton to silk to velvet, and from flat to textured. It's no wonder, then, that fabric can be a great decor option and an excellent way to add pizzaz to your home.

It also has inherent cuddly qualities, both visual and tactile. So if you're looking to add fabric decorations to your home, here are a few to get you started.

Someone with even basic sewing skills can create a handmade pillowcase. This can be a great way to freshen up a room and pillowcases are easy to change if you want to do a different one every season.

If the pillowcase will be in a room that is full of neutral pieces, go bold. Pick a bright color or loud pattern. If your room has a lot of colors already, you may want to go more neutral with your fabric choice.

For a standard size pillow, you will need about one yard of fabric. Cut it 41 inches wide and 31 inches tall. Fold the top edge down and sew the flap. Fold the rest of the fabric in half and sew the seams.

There are many other ways you can make a pillowcase but this method is the simplest way to create one quickly. If you are more skilled in the sewing department, you may be able to create one that looks professionally made.

Blankets are a great way to add fabric decorations to your home. And as we enter those cold winter months, who can say no to a cozy blanket?

If you have a bunch of old T-shirts, you can actually sew them together to create a blanket. This way all your memories will be on display instead of gathering dust in the back of your closet. This can also be a job for your whole family where you talk about what the shirts you use represent to you.

If you know how to knit, you could also consider knitting a blanket by hand for your home. Keep in mind, though, that this will take a long time and a lot of yarn. So don't start on this project if you want a blanket immediately.

If you aren't able to create a blanket yourself, there should be many options to pick from at local stores

Keep in mind where the blanket will be located: if it will be on a tan couch you will likely want a different color blanket than you would for a black one. And if the blanket will be used primarily on a bed, make sure you are getting one that is the correct dimensions to accomplish that goal.

Lamps

You could also add fabric to your lamps to change the look and feel of a room. If your lamp already has a frame, making a new cover is incredibly easy.

Start by laying out the fabric you want to use. Then roll it across the frame so you know how much fabric you will need. Cut a little extra to be safe.

Now it's time to wrap the fabric around the frame. Once it is laid out properly, glue it first to the lower rim and then to the upper rim. You can now cut off any excess fabric.

If you're less crafty, you can simply lie something sheer over the lamp. This will make the color of the light coming from the lamp look different and create a unique atmosphere.

Tapestries and felt wall art can be used instead of your more traditional pictures and paintings to add dimension to your wall. If you love to travel, consider purchasing these items while out of town so they have greater significance to you and are unique.

Scarves

Scarves are something you can use in many ways. For example, if you find a scarf with an interesting pattern, you can hang it on your wall. You can also spread it across a coffee table to change its look.

Rugs

Rugs are a great way to add texture and color to your home. And if you have an open concept set up, rugs can actually help define the various spaces.

Before deciding to add a rug to your home, think about the colors and sizes of the shapes so you aren't accidentally purchasing something that doesn't make sense.

You should also keep in mind who will be using the rug. If your family has pets and young kids, you may want to consider getting machine washable rugs.
